SACRED TRICKSTER
Kooky Klowns
The Kooky Klown series was born after reading Tony Hillerman’s Sacred Clowns. The Hopi Kashari (or sacred clown) is a figure who disrupts, provokes, and creates chaos, yet somehow remains essential to maintaining harmony in the community.

SACRED TRICKSTER
Sirens & Ba Birds
My interpretation and concept of the Ba bird takes a more positive approach rather than a destructive one. Instead of calling for the demise of sailors, my Ba birds are on the lookout to detour such calamities. Much like the Chinese Foo Dogs who stand guard to ward off evil spirits, my Ba birds take on the same significance. My Ba birds stand guard to protect against negative energy and help to maintain balance in the world. The hands that hold the birds represent the connection between the human and the raptor. There is a gesture in the way the hand comes forth and the way the Ba birds hand hold onto the fingers of the hand. This connection makes both figures become one both in shape and form.
